Christmas Greetings

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all members and visitors to our website a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Take care if you go to parties and take the car with you. the last thing you need to do is be pulled over,  breath tested and found  positive. Then begins a traumatic period of your life, back to using non-existent public transport, possibly the loss of your job and in extreme circumstances even your home and most importantly you would not be able to drive your beloved VW to shows or on cruised……..disaster for sure! Be wise, if you drive DONT drink and, if you do, make your way back home leaving you car where it is.

Have a great time but plan before you go out so the decisions are made when sober and not with a skin l and when you think you really are an invincible superman !

Oh yes, don’t forget to make sure your pets are not forgotten if you have fireworks over the Festive Season, they still go bang even in December!

No Volkswagens I’m afraid but when you consider the years of manufacture they
must have looked like space ships to the population of the day.

DRIVING IN RAIN…This May Save Your Life. This is well worth a read!”

I know the first one works but I never thought about the second one

DRIVING IN RAIN…This May Save Your Life. This is well worth a read!

SAFE-DRIVING TIPS WHEN IT IS RAINING!

GOOD VISION IN A DOWNPOUR

How to achieve good vision while driving during a heavy downpour. We are not sure why it is so effective; just try this method when it rains heavily.  This method was told by a Police friend who had experienced and confirmed it.  It is useful…even driving at night.

Most of the motorists would turn on HIGH or FASTEST SPEED of the wipers during heavy downpour, yet the visibility in front of the windshield is still bad…….
In the event you face such a situation, just put on your
SUNGLASSES (any model will do), and miracles! All of a sudden, your visibility in front of your windshield is perfectly clear, as if there is no rain.

Make sure you always have a pair of SUNGLASSES in your car. You are not only helping yourself to drive safely with good vision, but also might save your friend’s life by giving him this idea.. Try it yourself and share it with your friends!!!!

Amazingly, you still see the drops on the windshield, but not the sheet of rain falling. You can see where the rain bounces off the road.  It works to eliminate the “blindness” from passing cars.  Or the “kickup” if you are following a car in the rain.
They ought to teach this little tip in driver’s training.. It really does work.  This is a good warning. I wonder how many people knew about this???

Another good tip:

A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago. It was raining, though not excessively when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew through the air.  She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence! When she explained to the Police Officer what had happened, he told her something that every driver should know
NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON.
She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain…

But the Police Officer told her that if the cruise control is on, your car will begin to hydro-plane when the tyres lose contact with the road, and your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an aeroplane.  She told the Officer that was exactly what had occurred. The Officer said this warning should be listed, on the driver’s seat sun-visor -
NEVER USETHE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE ROAD IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed – but we don’t tell them to use the cruise control only when the road is dry.

The only person the accident victim found who knew this, (besides the Officer), was a man who’d had a similar accident, totalled his car and sustained severe injuries.

NOTE:
Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.
Even if you send this to 15 people and only one of them doesn’t know about it, it’s still worth it.  You may have saved a life.

CVWOC New Site

Not all pages are populated yet but I have tried to design a site which is intuitive to use with a good deal of content initially which will be added to over the coming months/years.

It is my hope that members will contribute content for the site, especially, for the Senior member areas and, also, to suggest other topics to raise a page for. Ant technical articles can be sent to me as a text or word processor file with accompanying illustrations in either .jpg or .gif format please. Microsoft office or any of the free office suites such as Crystal Office will be fine to use or, word-pad or notepad .txt files will do just fine.

Anyone with a super recipe they wish to pass on t o other members please send the recipe in to me for upload to the recipe section.

Any useful household or mechanical tips will also be welcomed.

If you happen to attend one of our events of go to a show with the Club an account of the experience would be very welcome too. I f you have some pictures sent them too please.

The Junior pages have been populated with some activity links but if the next generation of Dubbers have any workable suggestions I would like to hear from them too.

Uploading images tales a long time and it will be a while before the uploading is complete.

When you visit please make sure your register as a site user please and it would be appreciated if you could use your real name rather than something like ‘hissingsid’ as it is good to know who has signed up and if you are already a member.

The old site had problems with being able to use the contact us boxes which never actually worked. I have put that right within these pages and where contact might be necessary a working contact request form is included. The one within the Contact Us page will enable you to send a message directly to any of the Club’s officers or Committee members, with the exception of John Ward as he has yet to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century having no computer or mobile internet access.

Discontent was known of where the old site was concerned but without constructive input from site users it has been very difficult to judge exactly what was considered to be lacking. Just saying the site is *********** is no help at all.

Each post and page has the facility for comments to be added by registered site users. Your comments will not appear immediately as they will be moderated to ensure they are not offensive or left by a ‘spambot’ trying to get members for an adult site, for example.

I look forward to your comments either on the site or, go to the Contact us page and send a message to webmaster or Chairman.

Under Construction

If you have happened to find this site don’t think too badly of it as it is in the early stages of production and it will look very different once the structure has evolved and content has been added.

In due course this site will be accessed using the cvwoc.co.uk Domain but at present it is on my own g4usb.net domain during the editing process.
